Ascott Portfolio 2013 Maths level 3 fraction

✔ LEVEL 3 FRACTION

I am learning to solve fractions using halving and doubling.

This task is about finding fractions of a given number.

A farmer is selling some of his animals.
1.  The farmer sells ¼ of his 72 cows.  Show how to work out how many cows he sess.
18 x 2= 36   or   Half of 72 = 36  Half of 36 = 18
18 x 4=72 -
Great Ascott!  You used your knowledge of double to work this out.
Thank you Mrs Tui I’ll keep up the good work.

2. He sells ⅓ of his 45 pigs.  Show how to work out how many pigs he sees.
15 x 3 = 45 or 45 divide 3 = 15
Ascot I am not sure you understand.  You have to share 45 into 3 equal groups.

3.   He sells ⅙ of his 84 sheep.  Show how to work out how many sheep he sells.
84 divide 6 = 14 or 14 x 6 = 84
- How do you know to go 14 x 2?  The idea is to divide 84 into 6 groups -  80 divide by 6 =  10 and remainder of 20 + 4 = 24 divide by 6 = 4
Therefore 10 + 4 = 14.  that is why you have the fourteen.

You need to practise the fraction more.
